Located at about 15 km from Spoleto, the Tempietto sul Clitunno is one of the seven monuments included in the site list "Lombards in Italy: places of power".
The World Heritage Committee has inscribed it on the UNESCO's World Heritage List since June 2011.
It consists of a small sacellum in the shape of a Corinthian temple with two side porches.
The façade is punctuated by beautiful columns covered with leaves and by an architrave which bears, in Roman square capital writing, the inscription that invokes God, one of the rare examples of monumental epigraphy from the early Middle Ages.
The temple planning and construction, made with reused material, dates back to the 7th century and shares a lot of similarities with the Basilica of San Salvatore in Spoleto, especially concerning the fine sculptural decorations.
Inside there are wall paintings of remarkable quality that frame the marble aedicule of the apse, also made with reused materials, and decorations made from scratch.
