Installation by Paolo Icaro
curated by Saverio Verini

In the setting of the Church of Saints John and Paul, whose foundation dates back to 1154, Paolo Icaro, one of the most important sculptors of the contemporary art scene, is invited to dialogue with the evocative medieval architecture.

Icaro has imagined a poetic intervention made directly on site, which starts from the relationship with the surrounding environment: the installation consists of mirrored glass plates placed on top of small raised elements, that capture and reflect the paintings of the walls around, amplifying them. In this way the observer is invited to an unprecedented interaction between his position, his gaze and the images that surround him.

Anachronism marks the return to Spoleto of Paolo Icaro over fifty years after participating in the Spoleto Prize (1966) and the historic exhibition Eleven Italian artists of the sixties (1967), curated by Giovanni Carandente at Palazzo Ancaiani.

In the same years Icaro participated in important exhibitions remembered today as fundamental moments of art history and exhibitions of the last century, such as Arte Povera Im- Spazio at Galleria La Bertesca in Genoa (1967); Arte povera più azioni povera in Amalfi; Op Losse Schroeven. Situaties en cryptostructuren at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam; When Attitudes Become Form at the Kunsthalle in Bern (1968-1969).
